Image via: nationnews.comThe Presidency Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAM) has made a donation of equipments to the Ministry of Health which will assist caregivers of HIV/AIDS victims to monitor the cells which boosts the immune system.At a handing over ceremony on Wednesday at the office of the Ministry of Health, the United States Embassy’s new Charge D’Affaires Christopher Sandrolini explained that one of the equipments has the capability to monitor cells which boosts the immune system, and gives caregivers an idea of how much damage HIV has done to the patient’s defense system.“It is our honour to present a point care now CD 4 machine and minus eighty degrees freezer which is valued about $35, 000.00 that was procured through the PEPFAM initiative to support clinical laboratory monitoring with HIV/AIDS patients. An important component in this system is a professional top quality laboratory that can perform diagnostic and clinical monitoring services and implement laboratory quality management systems accreditation. The Now machine monitors CD 4 cells; these are cells in the body which boost the immune system and by measuring these cells caregivers know how much damage HIV has done to the bodies’ defense system and how they can best tailor the care and treatment of individual patients.
