Ouseph relishing All England challenge despite a tough draw

first_imgIf Rajiv Ouseph couldn’t stop smiling after leading his country to European team silver, the draw for the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships would have helped.Fresh from claiming his seventh straight singles title at the England National Badminton Championships, Ouseph carried his winning streak on to the continent. After leading his squad to the final, the skipper held up his end of the deal, winning the opening match of the final, but England were ultimately beaten 3-1 by Denmark.Nevertheless, it was the first time England have managed to finish second in the competition, having picked up bronze two years earlier. To keep his hot streak going, Ouseph will need to maintain his form and then some in Birmingham after landing a tough draw. The Commonwealth Games silver medallist faces China’s seventh seed Du Pengyu in round one and should he progress top seed and two-time winner Lee Chong Wei is waiting in the same quarter of the draw.It would be understandable if Ouseph’s sweet dreams about his silver had turned into sleepless nights, but the 27-year-old admits he expected nothing less.“It’s obviously going to be very difficult,” he said.Ouseph is in good form.“The men’s singles is probably the toughest event, it’s very Asian dominated and there are players there who are very strong but it’s an opportunity to do well in front of the home fans and generate an interest in badminton.“They can help you if you’re struggling a bit. I’ve had a few instances where that has been the case and pulled me through so hopefully that can happen again.”While the draw ensures Ouseph must hit the ground running in Birmingham to ensure his stay is not a brief one, he can at least take heart from his previous meeting with Pengyu.Ouseph won their only match in straight games when the pair met in November and admits confidence is high.“You know it is always a tough game whoever you get as it is the best players in the world,” he added.“It is supposed to be a tough event so you have to expect that challenge and I’m looking forward to it.“It’s one you always look forward to it, it’s a big year and this is another important event.”“I’ve been a bit up and down. I have some good performances in the last 12 months but I’ve also had some disappointing ones. If I can bring my level consistently higher then I’ll be in a good place.”Tickets for the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships at the NIA in Birmingham are available at www.allenglandbadminton.com or call the box office on 0844 444 9994.Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Updates About Updates: Blackmagic Addresses Firmware Issues

first_imgBlackmagic updates will make BMCC & BMPCC better, but not perfect.A firmware update may be coming to your Blackmagic Cinema Camera and Pocket Camera. In an update posted on the BlackMagic’s forum, Kristian Lam of Blackmagic Design gave an overview of firmware updates coming to the two inaugural cameras. While the updates aren’t complete they definitely will make the cameras more useable. The UpdatesThe updates that are going to be released in the very near future are:New debayering for shooting directly to ProRes or DNxHD on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF and MFTImproved MFT lens support on the Pocket Cinema CameraCompressed RAW support on the Production Camera 4KAutofocus support for EF lenses on Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF and Production Camera 4KLam stated that he believes they are “very close” to releasing the update. A few beta testers have been selected to try out this new update and have been doing so for a few months now. He also stated an intent to add audio metering and a histogram display in future updates as well. Other features that are likely to happen either in this update or future updates are the ability to format cards in the camera and a time remaining indicator. The Black Sun EffectPhoto courtesy of NewShooterOne of the biggest problems facing Blackmagic users is the dreaded Black Sun effect. A big black spot is usually caused when shooting video of the sun and as Lam states, it “is a fundamental characteristic of CMOS sensors”. Lam states that they are trying to fix the problem but no fix seems to be coming in the near future. Some sensors have additional circuitry to try and overcome this and this was available in the Pocket Cinema Camera. Unfortunately, it is not in the 2.5K sensor. Also, black sun correct circuitry is also not an on/off switch and with some sensors, it may result in other unwanted artefacts so we have to be really careful about it. Another method of overcoming the black sun effect is via image processing after the image has been acquired and passed on from the sensor. This is basically running an algorithm to try and detect what looks like the black sun and just clipping the black areas. Again, this could result in false positives and if you have a pattern in the image that is similar to the black sun, it could mistakenly be “corrected” as well. As you can see, this is a tricky situation. We are not ignoring it, but working to see what is the best way to address this.We aren’t sure when the firmware updates are scheduled to be released, but Kristian Lam is hinting that it will be in the very near future. Mets claim second title, winning Men’s 20’s division

first_imgThe Sydney Mets have beaten Sun Coast in a thrilling game in the Men’s 20’s final at the 2009 X-Blades National Touch League in Port Macquarie. The game was intense up until the final siren, with both teams desperately trying to take hold of the game, with the Mets eventually winning 8-7.Tim Good opened the scoring in the 5th minute, putting the Mets in front 1-0.The Mets nearly made it 2-0 two minutes later, but their touchdown attempt was disallowed. This came back to haunt them as Sean Baldwin from Sunshine Coast scored to level the game.Sun Coast was in again just two minutes later, when Kelvin Jones scored from a great ball from Jason Schmidt, to put them into the lead for the first time in the game.Tim Good scored his second try in the 11th minute, but soon after got sent from the field as a forced interchange, and Baldwin scored his double in the corresponding set of six, giving Sun Coast the lead again. Macquire Tatola and captain Matthew Yiangou both scored for the Mets in the last five minutes of the first half, sending the Sydney team to the half time break with a 4-3 lead, despite several disallowed touchdowns against the Mets in the first half.Dave Shaw extended the Mets lead soon after the break, giving them a two touchdown advantage.Back to back tries to Sun Coast put the teams on level terms, with tries to Luke Mendham and Zach Stasser, but it wasn’t long before Shaw scored his second touchdown of the game, capitalising on some slow defence on the line. The Mets’ Luke Eisenhuth broke through the line of defence in the 7th minute, fooling Sun Coast defenders on his way, giving the Mets some breathing space. This didn’t last long, however, with Nathan Sullivan the recipient of a great cut out pass to close the gap for Sun Coast six minutes out from full time. The Mets had many opportunities to run away with the game in the second half, but numerous penalties for forward passes and over the mark calls gave Sun Coast plenty of good field position.Another penalty in good field position gave Sun Coast a great opportunity to level the scores, and that’s what they did when captain Tyson Brough led by example, scoring in the 18th minute to level the scores. The scores weren’t level for long, as Ben Antonio dived through the Sun Coast defensive line in the next set of six, to put the Mets back in front with one minute to go.Sun Coast were disallowed a try due to a forward pass in the dying seconds, handing the Mets an 8-7 win.last_img read more

first_imgHector Bellerin enjoys full 90 for Arsenal U23 in Liverpool drawby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveArsenal fullback Hector Bellerin completed 90 minutes as they came from two goals down to draw with Liverpool at Meadow Park. The Spaniard came close to an opener when he drove through the visitors’ defence and fired a shot at goal but Ben Winterbottom saved well at his near post. Matt Macey then made a brilliant recovery save to keep out Rhian Brewster’s looping header from close range.Liverpool’s pressure paid off when Curtis Jones tapped in following Luis Longstaff’s low cross. The second then came when Jones met another Longstaff cross to head home. The Gunners were back in it on the stroke of half-time when Nathan Tormey beat the offside trap to slot the ball past Winterbottom.Early in the second half Folarin Balogun levelled the scores when he made no mistake from close range following Bellerin’s low cross. Bovada Releases March Madness Odds For All 68 Teams

first_imgSunday night, the 2015 NCAA Tournament field was revealed, and unsurprisingly, Kentucky was named the overall No. 1 seed. The Wildcats are also the odds-on favorite to win this year’s national title, per Bovada. In fact, Kentucky is almost at even money to take home the trophy – they’re currently listed at 6:5 to win it all.Arizona, the 2-seed in the West Region, actually has the second-highest odds. Wisconsin checks in third, with Duke fourth. Villanova and Virginia come in at 10:1.Here’s a list of all 68 tournament teams, along with their odds to win the championship. You could make a lot of money betting on a 16-seed to win it all, but we wouldn’t advise it. No 16-seed has ever even won an NCAA Tournament game, much less a title.Screen Shot 2015-03-16 at 12.23.19 PMScreen Shot 2015-03-16 at 12.24.09 PMScreen Shot 2015-03-16 at 12.24.38 PMWho are you betting on?last_img
