Indian Premier League 2016, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Daredevils: As it Happened

first_imgHere are the Highlights of the Indian Premier League 2016 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils at the Eden Gardens. (Scorecard)Highlights:23.06 IST: QUOTES!Man of the Match, Andre Russell: We just have to adjust to any surface. That is where professionalism comes into play. It wasn’t the fastest of wickets, it wasn’t slow either. If I get a chance to bat, I’d go out there and do something destructive. When things are going your way, you need to find ways to stay up there. Gautam Gambhir: We were very professional. Russell got to Kolkata this morning. The way he started with the ball was commendable. He is a quality player. Once we restricted them to 98, it was half the job done. We aren’t used to playing on these kind of wickets, that is why we decided to bowl first. In our chase, someone had to bat through. That is what professional teams do. It was my responsibility to do that. Robin was unbelievable, to give us that kind of start was fantastic. We’ve covered most of our bases, so we are happy with whatever surfaces we get. Zaheer Khan: You learn every day. I was trying to swing it too much. Playing a game after a long time. IPL is such a long tournament, every team is going to have one bad game. And this was our first and last bad game and it’s out of the way. We are giving them freedom. T20 is such a fast game, we want the intensity. 120 could have been close on this track. This team is all about letting them express themselves on the field freely. advertisementKolkata Knight Riders inningsWith this win against #DD this is the 4th time #KKR have won by 9 wickets in IPL #KKRStats #KKRvDD KolkataKnightRiders (@KKRiders) April 10, 201622.55 IST: That’s it! Can they improve their winning record (6W-9L) against KKR today?  #Dilliboys training hard at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata! Delhi Daredevils (@DelhiDaredevils) April 10, 201618.20 IST: Players to watch out for in KKR – Apart from the big names, both teams have youngsters to watch out for. Knight Riders’ Manish Pandey will be the focal point after his match-winning ton against Australia in the final ODI of the five-match series in Sydney earlier this year. The young batsman from Karnataka also got a chance to be a part of India’s World T20 squad. Young pacer Jayadev Unadkat, who scalped 29 wickets in three Ranji Trophy matches and the Irani Cup tournament will be crucial to KKR’s chances. With Sunil Narine missing from action, it will be interesting to see how Gautam Gambhir handles his bowlers today.Players to watch out for in DD: Carlos Brathwaite, off course. Shreyas Iyer, who has had a fantastic run in the domestic season, will be looking to carry his form into the tournament. South Africa opener Quinton de Kock and spinner Imran Tahir will play an important role at Delhi. Rahul Dravid, who had  a successful stint with the suspended IPL club Rajasthan Royals will face pressure at Delhi, who haven’t been consistent enough in the eight seasons. Mohammad Shami, who is struggling with injuries, will be in action at the Eden today. It will also be a test of character for the veteran pacer Zaheer Khan.  [email protected] captain @ImZaheer sharing bowling tips with his pacers @MdShami11 & Suyal IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 7, 201618. 10 IST: The Indian Premier League season nine is on and we saw Rising Pune Supergiants thrash Mumbai Indians in the opener yesterday. And the focus today shifts to Eden Gardens where two-time champions, home side Kolkata Knight Riders take on Delhi Daredevils. There is a lot of excitement about the Delhi unit this time after Rahul Dravid was appointed the mentor of the side. In a surprise move, Zaheer Khan was named the skipper of the team.  Preview: Two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who have roped in some utility cricketers this season, look set to begin their Indian Premier League (IPL) season in style when they host Delhi Daredevils (DD) in an encounter at the Eden Gardens today. The Knights have somewhat stuck to the same squad which helped them lift the trophy in 2012 and 2014 but have managed to bring in the likes of all rounders Colin Munro, Jason Holder and John Hastings.Delhi too have made some changes to their team from last year, adding England batsman Sam Billings and West Indies all rounder Carlos Brathwaite. It was just last Sunday that Brathwaite smashed four consecutive sixes in the final over to gift West Indies the World T20 trophy at the Eden. A week later he will be in different colours trying the same for his franchise. The KKR bowlers will be wary of his strengths and therefore might rely on spin to do the trick on a wicket that turns.Tweakers Brad Hogg and Piyush Chawla might get drafted into the final XI, supported by Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who bowls left arm off-spin.Mystery spinner Sunil Narine is not likely to be back for the clash, as he has returned to his country after his father’s demise. On paper, KKR’s pace arsenal is not the fiercest, but it is promising due to the presence of Umesh Yadav And Jaydev Unadkat. It will once again be led by South African fast bowler Morne Morkel, who clocks 145 kmph with ease in such conditions.Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey have been two vital cogs in the KKR batting wheel. Both have scored plenty of runs in the IPL and skipper Gautam Gambhir will again look to them to deliver the goods.Gambhir and Uthappa feature in the fifth and sixth position among the IPL’s leading run scorers and they would want to make it count this time as well. You will see the best of Sunil Narine in IPL 2016, says Gautam GambhirNarine, who has gone back home after his father’s demise, would be available in Kolkata Knight Riders’ second match against Mumbai Indians on April 13.  (Read More) Rahul Dravid my idol, privileged to work with him: Carlos Brathwaite World T20 hero Carlos Brathwaite said he was privileged to work with Rahul Dravid at Delhi Daredevils in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
