JUDGE ORDERS BAKER TO PAY OUT €160 OVER ‘MEASLES’ WEDDING CAKE

first_imgJudge Paul KellyA JUDGE has ordered a baker to hand back €160 to a couple over a wedding cake.Judge Paul Kelly made the ruling at the small claims court in Letterkenny after the mother of the groom said the cake she ordered was completely different from the one she received. The judge commented that it was “hugely unfortunate” that the parties in the dispute hadn’t settled it before coming to court. The court heard that the dispute arose over a wedding in Dublin last July. The mother of the groom had given a picture of the cake she wanted to the baker. It was collected in Donegal and taken to Dublin by another relative two days before the big day.But the mother of the groom said she was horrified when she saw the cake; edible gold petals she had asked for were a palish yellow.“It (the cake) looked like a bowler hat with measles,” she told Judge Kelly.Due to the error, the woman said she missed a tour of the Guinness Brewery and the wedding rehearsal with relatives of her new daughter-in-law who had arrived in the capital from north America.Examining photographs of the cake which was ordered and pictures of the actual cake, Judge Kelly noted there was “a very substantial difference”.The baker however handed in the dyes she used for the cake; saying the directions on colours were unclear.“That’s what I see as gold,” she said. The mother of the bride said the cake wasn’t used at the wedding as a result of its appearance.Judge Kelly agreed it wasn’t the cake she had asked for and ordered the baker to reimburse the woman for €160.JUDGE ORDERS BAKER TO PAY OUT €160 OVER ‘MEASLES’ WEDDING CAKE was last modified: January 11th, 2015 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
